A man dies in Windsor Castle after a Dine & Sleep hosted by the Queen。 The Queen "investigates" this murder using her right hand women and slips clues to the Lead investigator。 I liked how this book talks about the love that Elizabeth has for Phillip (amazing timing) and how very human she is。 Though this is fiction, I would like to think that the Queen is one fun and witty lady! The story itself was bogged down with a lot or Russian names making a little hard to read。 This looks like it is book A man dies in Windsor Castle after a Dine & Sleep hosted by the Queen。 The Queen "investigates" this murder using her right hand women and slips clues to the Lead investigator。 I liked how this book talks about the love that Elizabeth has for Phillip (amazing timing) and how very human she is。 Though this is fiction, I would like to think that the Queen is one fun and witty lady! When is the next book in the series?I loved, loved, loved this book!! I am an ardent unabashed Monarchist and I adore the Queen。。 the character of the Queen in this book is exactly how I imagine she would be in real life (if she was indeed a secret sleuth in her spare time)The narrator was on point with great voices for individual characters and a very easy to listen to。 The story kept me engrossed from end to end。。 I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!

Fantastic! Loved every moment I spent with the Queen。 And grateful for my introduction to jam pennies。

I started reading this on the day Prince Philip died。 It’s amazing how real and lifelike S。J。 Bennett makes her royal characters。 A really enjoyable novel!

I gave this novel two stars because I found it too slow to really become interested or vested in the murder mystery。 Read it for the internet hype, but found it disappointing。

It was a quick read and cute book for the genre。 I get the author is smart—she named dropped Cambridge and McKinsey in her bio—but the overly complex diction did make book hard to read in the beginning。

This is a fictional story in which the Queen with the help of her assistant Rozie, turns detective to solve a mysterious death at Windsor Castle。 Although it is fiction, the family details and those of the Castle are accurate and the relationship between the Queen and Prince Philip is portrayed in exactly the way I imagined it。 I had this book on my shelf and now seemed the appropriate time to read it。 I loved it。

I love a good cosy mystery and this did not disappoint。 After hosting a ‘dine and sleep’ soirée (that’s Royal speak for a sleepover party!) at Windsor Castle, Lilibet (Queen Elizabeth II to all you Royalists) wakes up to distressing news that overnight, a guest had been found dead in his room。 The deceased, Maksim Brodsky (a handsome young Russian pianist) was found hanging with a rope around his neck。 At first glance it appears as if young Maksim has committed suicide, but did he? The Met Police and MI5 are brought in to investigate。 MI5 is convinced foul play was involved, that he was murdered。 They have decided that the pianist's death resulted from a Putin directed assassination with the help of a member of the Palace staff。Sir Simon Holcraft, the Queen’s Private Secretary, tries to shield her from the worst of the news。 However Lilibet is far too astute to believe a half truth。 We soon learn that the Queen (aka The Boss) has in fact, been solving ‘mysteries’ since she was a teenager。 When it appears the case is headed in the wrong direction, the Queen enlists the help of her assistant private secretary, Rozie Oshodi, to go seek out the truth about the man's death。In addition to solving the mystery of Brodsky’s demise, the Queen also goes about her daily business of royal duties – celebrating the anniversary of the postal service; handing out awards; playing hostess to the Obamas and the Japanese Prime Minister and his wife; attending public festivities for her 90th birthday; visiting with her children and grand-children; walking the dogs; riding her horses; attending the Royal Windsor Horse Show; and, most importantly, spending time with her husband, Prince Phillip。It's a wonderfully charming and cleverly constructed read。 。。。more

This was truly a unique premise for a new cozy mystery series。 I liked the idea of the Queen of England being the brains behind the mystery solving but her being so stealth as to having to the rather useless official investigators thinking they had achieved it all。 (Although that annoyed me since they acted as though the queen couldn’t think at all let alone handle their male greatness and intelligence)。 I also liked that the story gave some humanizing to the Queen and showed her as both a perso This was truly a unique premise for a new cozy mystery series。 I liked the idea of the Queen of England being the brains behind the mystery solving but her being so stealth as to having to the rather useless official investigators thinking they had achieved it all。 (Although that annoyed me since they acted as though the queen couldn’t think at all let alone handle their male greatness and intelligence)。 I also liked that the story gave some humanizing to the Queen and showed her as both a person and a figure。 I do hope there will be more, but I hope that the mystery can be a little more in future volumes。 Maybe it was the third party investigating but this mystery seemed a little flat and small although at it’s first introduction it was a bit scandalous。 It was certainly creative to have a piano player die at Windsor castle in a dressing gown appearing to have taken part in kinky sex games that left him dead。 。。。more

Having heard it was a book about the Queen solving murders, thought it would be a lighter campy fluff read。 It was not, it was more like an actual spy murder mystery。 I had a hard time getting into it, maybe due to my preconception。 There were a bunch of different characters that I didn't always keep track of。 And it came from different perspectives, where I wasn't always sure for a while who was narrating。 Partly I probably couldn't keep track as I just never got pulled into it。 And then, not t Having heard it was a book about the Queen solving murders, thought it would be a lighter campy fluff read。 It was not, it was more like an actual spy murder mystery。 I had a hard time getting into it, maybe due to my preconception。 There were a bunch of different characters that I didn't always keep track of。 And it came from different perspectives, where I wasn't always sure for a while who was narrating。 Partly I probably couldn't keep track as I just never got pulled into it。 And then, not total spoiler, but possibly partial spoiler if you don't want any hint of the ending。。。 at the end I wasn't overly pleased it seemed to give up on giving clues to let you tie it together and basically just spent one long chapter telling you how it was done。 So was alright, if you like spy novels, but with the premise I was hoping for more。 。。。more

I need to put my thoughts down while they're still top of mind。 When I first picked up The Windsor Knot by S。J。 Bennett, the synopsis sounded fresh and original。 This is mystery-lite, which I'm completely down with, but the pacing was slow, the stakes were low, and the revelations didn't engage。The gist of the story (and I'm guessing the theme of a future ongoing series) is Her Majesty The Queen, along with her assistant secretary, take it upon themselves to solve a murder that happened inside t I need to put my thoughts down while they're still top of mind。 When I first picked up The Windsor Knot by S。J。 Bennett, the synopsis sounded fresh and original。 This is mystery-lite, which I'm completely down with, but the pacing was slow, the stakes were low, and the revelations didn't engage。The gist of the story (and I'm guessing the theme of a future ongoing series) is Her Majesty The Queen, along with her assistant secretary, take it upon themselves to solve a murder that happened inside the walls of Windsor Castle following a "dine and sleep。" The actual authorities appear to be on the wrong track and Queen Elizabeth, over the course of the novel, neatly steers them back。Bennett clearly did her research and portrays a realistic portrait of the Queen, Prince Philip, and the royal goings-on at various palaces。 In real life, Queen Elizabeth is famous for her soft power, diplomatic skills, and non-partisanship and these traits follow the Queen into the book。 However, they make for a very boring lead character in a murder mystery novel。 I would be willing to suspend belief if it allowed the Queen to have more agency and an active role in the solving of this mystery。 Between galas, horse shows, and privy council meetings, she primarily makes suggestions to Rozie Oshodie (her assistant secretary) on who to interview and Oshodie does all the legwork。 When Oshodie does find something of note, they then have a non-discussion discussion about it。 Never explicitly mentioning what they're really talking about。 The final reveal is a surprise, not because of what it reveals, but by how little I cared (I feel terrible saying that!) The reader is never given the chance to guess the outcome for themselves because the murder players were underdeveloped and one of them comes out of left field。 Ultimately, I would try her next book because the concept has a lot of promise。 However, I would like to see the Queen take an active role and not be a passive presence sitting in her plush palace。 I think it would be more fascinating if they took her back to the '50s-'70s and she could really flex some detective skills! The book hints that she's been solving mysteries for decades, so I'm ready to see it。 。。。more

“Tom said Humphreys solved the whole thing,” he said。 “Wouldn’t have thought he had it in him。”“Yes, it was rather surprising。” “Bloody shocking, I’d say。 D’ya know, I think he had someone feeding him information。” “Do you?” She frowned at her husband sharply。 “God yes,” he said, with an emphatic nod。 “Some underling, no doubt。 Brainy as hell but quite passed over。 Doing all the work and giving him all the kudos。 Don’t you think?”She relaxed a little。 “Something like that。”I must say that I was “Tom said Humphreys solved the whole thing,” he said。 “Wouldn’t have thought he had it in him。”“Yes, it was rather surprising。” “Bloody shocking, I’d say。 D’ya know, I think he had someone feeding him information。” “Do you?” She frowned at her husband sharply。 “God yes,” he said, with an emphatic nod。 “Some underling, no doubt。 Brainy as hell but quite passed over。 Doing all the work and giving him all the kudos。 Don’t you think?”She relaxed a little。 “Something like that。”I must say that I was immediately drawn to the brilliant premise of this novel。 I mean, who doesn’t secretly wish that The Queen moonlighted as a private investigator? Throughout the novel, The Queen uses her unlimited connections to solve crime under the radar, with the help of her savvy young secretary, Rozie。 And while the novel fantastically captures the nuances of The Queen’s voice, a balance between elegant wit and bone dry humour, I’d like to see further development for Rozie in upcoming entries in the series。 While at times I felt one step behind, and perhaps even a little lost, by the vast array of characters and misdirects, like any good mystery novel, the bigger picture came together by the end。 I was left feeling satisfied, if a tad under-qualified。 This Queen has brass and brains to boot。 But isn’t that something we knew all along? The Windsor Knot is a very fun read that I would highly suggest to fans of the genre。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book。 It's a fun premise for what I believe is intended to be a series。 The author has wisely set herself up to be able to move backward or forward in time, since, in the book's universe, the Queen has been solving mysteries since she was a girl。 I thought the resolution of this book, including the overall "explanation" of the crime, to be a bit convoluted and overall a let down, but I suspect/hope that the series will get stronger as Bennett continues writing。 I enjoyed this book。 It's a fun premise for what I believe is intended to be a series。 The author has wisely set herself up to be able to move backward or forward in time, since, in the book's universe, the Queen has been solving mysteries since she was a girl。 I thought the resolution of this book, including the overall "explanation" of the crime, to be a bit convoluted and overall a let down, but I suspect/hope that the series will get stronger as Bennett continues writing。 。。。more

Cozy little mystery。 The best part of this is the description of the Queen's locations and staff。 I enjoyed the strong female characters。 It's a set of charming characters for the most part, entertaining but really kind of absurd。 I'm sure that royalists love this but otherwise it's kind of just a fluffy beach read。 I won't be reading the rest in this series。 That said, I'll give it 3 stars because so many others have written strong reviews and liked it。 Just not my cup of tea (and there's a lot Cozy little mystery。 The best part of this is the description of the Queen's locations and staff。 I enjoyed the strong female characters。 It's a set of charming characters for the most part, entertaining but really kind of absurd。 I'm sure that royalists love this but otherwise it's kind of just a fluffy beach read。 I won't be reading the rest in this series。 That said, I'll give it 3 stars because so many others have written strong reviews and liked it。 Just not my cup of tea (and there's a lot of tea to be had)。。。 。。。more
